Going ‘Dark’ to See

Archived posts coming in February due to eye surgery

Starting next month, I will be sharing some posts from my archives that I hope will be of interest. Some posts are relevant and interesting enough to be shared more than once. In this case, I have other motivation, as well.

I will be undergoing eye surgery for a congenital eye condition and will more than likely be blind for a short period of time. Added to that, I am supposed to allow six to eight weeks for recovery which means no screen time… For an author, that could be a hard pill to swallow.

However, I have been through this before. I had eye surgery on both eyes eleven years ago and was blind for approximately three months and off work for five. It taught me a lot of really good lessons and made me grateful for the things I could do. It also gave me a new appreciation for people who have to live with limitations for a lifetime, not just a short period.

During that three month time I did a lot of reflecting and praying; listened to the Bible on tape (yes, I had a cassette player then!) as well as other audio books; honed my ‘playing by ear’ skills rather than relying on playing the piano by notes, and I knit a sweater. The latter occupied quite a bit of my time. The finished sweater has several flaws, but I enjoyed the challenge of creating something by feel only, and even though I don’t wear it much, it reminds me of those days and the lessons I learned about relying on God.

In any case, it is doubtful that I will be able to post anything new, but I thought it a perfect opportunity to reach back and find some gems from the archives. I hope you enjoy them as they come out. SEE you on the other side!

Hopefully the surgery goes smoothly and your recovery time does as well.

I dare not complain about recovering from surgery on my right wrist for carpal tunnel syndrome. This does curtail my activities, but not nearly as much as this eye surgery would slow you down–although it doesn’t sound like you slow down for much, Tracy. I will be hoping and praying for successful surgery and recovery. May God bless you and teach you throughout this process.
