Halloween, Blogging, and Nanowrimo

end-of-October thoughts

What do these three topics have in common?

Not much other than that they are all on my mind as we near the end of October!

First, I want to celebrate the fact that this coming November I will have been blogging for fifteen years! That’s a long time and a lot of posts. I’m not much for numbers, but since switching to this platform, I think this is post number 465. However, long before that, I blogged on the “blogspot” platform on a blog called “Expression Express”. I published my first post ion November of 2009. I’m pretty sure this translated into the thousands of posts since at one point I blogged six days a week! ( I know! I can hardly believe it myself.) These days I only blog once a week. I wrote a piece about the changes in year thirteen that might interest you: “Why I Still Blog”.

November is also the “most wonderful time of the year” because it’s NaNoWriMo. This stands for “National Novel Writing Month” and it’s huge all around the world. Each November, thousands of people commit to writing 50,000 words – the length of a short novel. I’ve participated 13 times. (This will be #14! Whoop!) In that time, many of my Nano projects have gone on to be rewritten and polished into published work. Expect an update on the other side of November!

Finally, I’m glad that Halloween is almost here – and gone. I have a strange love/hate relationship with the holiday. I appreciate the “fun” of dressing up, but I get so tired of the evil imagery in stores and on TV… I’ve blogged about it before: Halloween Dilemmas.

See you in November!
