As I browsed through my Kindle library I decided to reread my own book ALIENS AMONG US. I know, I know… why read something you wrote yourself when you have so many other great options?
I’m not really sure what the answer to that question is, but I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed the book! If you haven’t read it, it’s quite good, if I do say so! However, it did get me wondering WHY it hasn’t had more traction or many reviews.
The answer to this second question astonished me the moment it popped into my head. The cover and title DID NOT actually fit the book. I’ve been doing some learning about marketing etc, so this insight came out of that, I think. Anyway, I wrestled with this information for a bit. I actually really liked the original cover. However, upon inspection, both it and the title seem to indicate a much more serious and possibly even sinister book.
This book is actually quite humorous and light. Yes, there are aliens, but they are friendly aliens and there is a lot of wit and fun to go along with the adventure. There are also lots of good life lessons, too.
I actually had trouble sleeping one night because of it. How could I change the cover and the title to better reflect the REAL message of the book? Well, as often happens, the next day I awoke with the inspiration I needed.
THE ALIEN NEXT DOOR came together quickly. (Okay, and I admit it – I LOVE the new cover so much!!) I had to republish it as a brand new book with a new ISBN since the title had changed, but essentially, everything else is the same. (I also found four typos while reading, so was able to fix those, too! It doesn’t seem to matter how well-edited a book is, there will always be a few small errors that slip through…)
I urge you to check the new version out. If you do, PLEASE leave a rating! This book is not just for teens! If you like action, adventure, humor, and bit a of romance, I think you’ll enjoy it.
