“Zentangles” is the term I use for drawings that are embellished with decorative designs. (I’ve heard other names for this style of art such as “doodle art” etc.) In any case, the style has become quite popular in recent years. When I taught public school art, students enjoyed the unit on zentangle design, and it was then that I got the idea to make pictures for each of my children in the style of an animal starting with the letter of their names. I’ve shared various zentangle art before, which I will link to at the bottom.
As the years have gone by and new children have joined the family (either through birth or marriage) I’ve accumulated quite a collection. I’ve even thought about doing a picture book with each letter of the alphabet.
In 2022 we welcomed three new babies to the family. I didn’t get around to doing their zentangles until 2023, gifting two of them on their birthday and one at Christmas. Thus, I can FINALLY share the three new zentangles I’ve added to my collection!
M is for Myfanwy. She is actually quite the little monkey, so this really fits!
I had trouble deciding which animal to do for Greta and Jane. Should I go with the birds or the fish? (They’re twins.) As it turns out, I gave Greta the goose and Jane the jellyfish. (The other options were a goldfish and a jay.)
An alphabet book is a really good idea!!!!
I thought so too!
How about an alphabet poster too when you do the book? I would love an alphabet zentangle made by you in my boys rooms.
Hm… I will give this some thought.
