There’s been a lot going on in my small town! Who says small-town life is boring? Not me!
There was the annual “Holly Jolly” celebration, which included the tree light-up downtown along with kid’s crafts, carolling, a visit from Santa, and treats.
Then there is “Sledding Santa” an evening when the firetrucks lead Santa, who is riding on a snow machine, through the entire town. Every single child gets a gift from Santa. They just have to run outside when they hear the sirens.
Another favourite of mine is the “Light Tour”. Folks who feel especially festive can enter their homes in a light contest. Then, residents go through a drive-through stop at one of the hotels and get a printed map of all the locations around town. Everyone in the car gets a cookie and hot chocolate. After touring the town, you head back to the hotel and cast your vote for the best-decorated residence in several categories. Kids in the car get a cool craft to take home for participating, and the winners are announced a few days later.
These are some of my favourites.
Finally, the ministerial puts on a Christmas Eve service at the Community Centre. (Our church is part of it so we are busy with organizing the event.)
I’ve only mentioned community events, but I’ve got lots more on the go with church events like:
Annual Christmas Hamper delivery to needy families. Here are some of the boxes our ladies’ group helped wrap to hold all the items that go into the hampers.
Ladies’ Christmas party.
Church Christmas banquet.
Sunday School pageant.
Phew! Since my husband retired and I work remotely we don’t have any work parties to attend, but we do have family gatherings, too! Merry Christmas!
