Grateful for my “Day Job”

Five Years With HCOS

I wear two hats when it comes to my “work”. (Well, many hats if you consider all the other aspects of my life, but I’m only talking about the two that I consider “work”.)

I am an author, (as is obvious if you are visiting this website!) I am so grateful for this aspect of my life and I spend a fair bit of my time writing, editing, marketing, and promoting. I do make some money at it, but to be honest, I couldn’t live off my writing income if I didn’t have other means of making money.

My other hat is teaching. I’ve been a teacher of one sort or another for a long time – most of my adult life. From working in the public system for twenty-plus years in five territories and provinces, to home educating my own kids for many years, to most recently working as a support teacher for an independent online school, I’ve been at it since 1985! I come from a long line of teachers, so it’s in my blood!

This year marks my fifth year working for HCOS. (Heritage Christian Online School). It’s a match made in heaven. I am still involved in the educational field, but I no longer have the stress of the classroom to deal with as I work mostly from home. It marries my many years of experience with my passion for home education. I am so grateful for the staff and administration. Where else can you speak openly about your faith, where prayer is an integral part of every meeting, and where Pro D conferences begin with worship? I love it!

Report cards are done and there are a couple of staff meetings to go. As another school year wraps up, I have one more thing to say: Enjoy your summer!
