Resurrection Sunday is just around the corner! For Christians, this is the highlight of the year, for HE IS RISEN! (He is risen indeed!)
The above little phrase is one that I was introduced to (and subsequently embraced) back in the mid-80s when my husband and I went to a very small Baptist church. It wasn’t just any Baptist church, it was a Ukrainian Baptist church! We were living in Saskatchewan at the time, and had just purchased a tiny house in the even tinier village of Hyas. We started going to the Hyas Ukrainian Baptist Church when I was pregnant with our first child and attended for several years afterward.
The neat thing about that church was that we felt so welcome – like we belonged, even though most of the people were elderly. Lots of whiteheads in that church, let me tell you! Also, most of them were related in one way or another, and yes – they were of Ukrainian ancestry! They loved on us with lots of delicious FOOD and lots of acceptance, too.
In any case, one of the traditional greetings they used at Easter time was, “He is Risen,” to which you were to respond, “He is risen indeed!” it stuck with me to this day!
If this hasn’t been your tradition, why not give it a try?
Love. Love. Love. I just finished writing my email for April and wrote these exact words: HE IS RISEN! He is risen indeed! at the top! There is something so divine about these words. I love that you held outdoor Easter services in the Yukon. Will you tell us more about that next week?
I actually link to a post I already wrote about the Yukon Easter sunrise service. 🙂 Happy Easter!
