Spotlight on Reading

I love reading!

So, why haven’t I read more books lately?!

As an author, I think it is good practice to read widely, not to mention I’ve always loved books from many different genres. I was a “frequent flyer” at the library when I was a kid and continued this habit into adult life.

Although I still love the feel and smell of a “real” book, and I love the way they line up on a bookshelf, these days I mostly read ebooks. I just find them easier on the eyes plus they are cheaper to purchase and don’t take up so much room.

In past years I’ve kept track of the books I read and often shared them when the new year rolled around. I didn’t manage to do that last year. I also used to be diligent about adding books I’d read to goodreads, but that, too, seems to have gone by the wayside. I could say I’ve been too busy, but that wouldn’t be true, and I’m not one to tell lies! By my best count, I’m still on my first novel of the year and have read parts of three different devotional books. Too much “Property Brothers”? Maybe!

One thing I did begin last year was sharing authors I admire in a regular #SaturdaySpotlight Social Media post. I listed all that I shared throughout 2023 at the bottom of this post, but I didn’t try to link to each one. I did say a bit about my TOP THREE along with a link to their Amazon Author page. Check them out and enjoy!

GL Robinson – writes Regency with an authentic voice and a super tongue-in-cheek sense of humor. She’s originally from the UK, so you know she actually “gets it”!

April Gardner – writes historical fiction from a Christian worldview. I LOVE her Beneath the Blackberry Moon Series and Dawn of the Frost Moon Series, both of which feature Indigenous characters. She’s recently written some Biblical historical novels, too, which I haven’t read yet, but based on the other books I’ve read, I’m sure I will enjoy them.

Terrie Todd is a Canadian writer from Manitoba whose historical fiction focuses on the World War II era. Her work is beautifully written, in-depth, and well-researched with some unexpected outcomes. I’m looking forward to reading her next two books this year. (When I quit wasting my time playing the Property Brothers app!).

Dana Pratola – Okay I said my top three, but I just had to mention Dana Pratola, too, even though it’s been a while since I’ve read any of her books. She writes speculative romance and fantasy from a Christian worldview.
