I recently got a FB message from a former student of mine. It read like this:
“I just wanted to reach out and say thank you. I decided last year to leave the career path I had chosen to pursue art and I don’t think I would have had the courage to do that if I hadn’t had people like you encouraging me not to settle for a boring job. I’m going to be attending Emily Carr starting this fall and I’ve had a lot of gratitude for you for being someone who was very encouraging of my creativity throughout my teenage years. So thank you for telling me that there are other ways to live and for supporting so many people like me.”
THAT RIGHT THERE is what makes my career as a teacher worthwhile! I’ve had other students message me wth similar sentiments and I have to say, It never gets old! Teachers, know that even amidst all the difficulties, you are affecting lives! (Thank you KS!)
