Three Reasons to Keep On Writing

Someone once said that a professional writer is an amateur who didn’t quit.

Now that I am ‘semi -retired’ from teaching (I can’t say ‘fully retired’ since I took a job at an online school) I am looking forward to writing full time. I don’t think that constitutes ‘professional’ though, since in order to be considered a ‘pro’, one has to make the majority of their income from said activity…

In any case, whether I make more money or not now that I can focus more time on writing, I have been taking stock of my reasons for continuing down this path. I came up with three basic reasons:

I write for ME – (personal growth)

I write for OTHERS – (ministry)

I write for GOD – (worship)

I’ve got two writers’ conferences coming up in the next few weeks, and I’m sure I will have lots more to say once the dust settles. (Plus I just returned from a teacher’s conference at the end of August.) Just goes to show that you’re never too old to learn, that’s for sure.
